Section 6: Need to Speed

For more than two decades, speeding has been involved in approximately one-third of all motor vehicle fatalities. Speeding endangers not only the life of the speeder, but all of the people on the road around them, including law enforcement officers. It is a problem we all need to help solve.

Speeding behavior and aggressive drivers may not only affect the speeder—it can also affect other drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Encourage students to participate on this discussion. Everyone speeds for a different reason. Some might speed because they are running late while others just enjoy exceeding the speed limit.

We all drive to fast from time, and more than a few of you may be speeding right now. We also know that it is dangerous. Going too fast make accidents more likely, and more likely to cause injuries and death.

Speed Limits: Maximum legal speed you can travel on a road under ideal conditions.
